CHAPTER ONE
SPECIAL PASSOVER PREPARATION EDITION
Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast—as you really are. For Messiah, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.1 Corinthians 5:7
Shabbat shalom dearly beloved:
Passover is the season of Freedom and Deliverance. We are commanded to remember how YHVH set us free from the bitter bondage and slavery to Egypt. We are also commanded to remember the greater deliverance out of darkness into the marvelous light of Messiah through Y’shua’s sacrifice on the cross as He ushered the New Covenant in His Blood. This year Yah has been speaking to us about a serious issue of slavery that has caused more bondage and hurt in the world and in the Body of Messiah almost than any other issue. We call it WOMANOPHOBIA.
What is WOMANOPHOBIA?
It is a coined word that describes the following:
The irrational fear of letting a woman have a position of leadership, especially in the Church.
It is comprised of two words:
1. WOMAN i.e. a human of Female Gender created in the Image and likeness of Elohim, the Creator! So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27
2. PHOBIA is an intense, irrational, unrealistic fear, which can interfere with the ability to socialize, work, or go about everyday life that is brought on by an object, event or situation and is regarded as a mental disorder.
For example if someone is bit by a dog, may develop a fear against all dogs. Such person would never come close to a canine, purchase one or enjoy its wonderful company- he has developed an irrational fear that will prevent him from enjoying one.
A Phobia comes accompanied by a spirit of fear. The Scriptures tell us that God has not given us a spirit of fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
We believe that when people have strong reactions of rejection against women in ministry it is irrational, unrealistic and it paralyzes the Body of Y’shua so it cannot function properly. By the end of these two part message, you will know why it is imperative that we get rid of Womanophobia once and for all as it is OBSTRUCTING revival and the Move of the Spirit. The first part of this Urgent Message is Rabbi Baruch’s testimony as an ex-persecutor of women in leadership. The Second Part he will take you through the Scriptures from the original Greek language and your eyes will be opened to the Truth. That BOTH male and female are created in the Image of Elohim, the Creator and BOTH are called to be fruitful, to multiply and to RULE in this earth. Both men and women are called to be priests and kings unto our God! The Almighty used Deborah as the Prophet and the Judge of all of Israel, she taught men the Torah in the Old Covenant times...The New Covenant is established on better promises and that includes in what concerns WOMEN!
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Messiah Y’shua. Galatians 3:28
We all have the same Holy Spirit and she is no respecter of persons!
Spirit/Ruach in Hebrew is of feminine gender as in Genesis 1:2
Ruach Elohim Merachefet al pnei hamayim.
The Spirit of the Creator was floating/fluttering/dancing as a female over the waters (Merachefet is female! Male would be Merachef!)
Rabbi Baruch Bierman tells his story
I was a persecutor of women in ministry, thinking that I should pick up where Paul left off!
Let me start from quite a few years ago when I was praying to find the right congregation for me after my salvation. The Lord led me to some great churches but I never felt at home because I was raised a Jew. He led me to a wonderful Messianic Congregation in Clearwater, Florida called Beth-Israel. The Pastor-Rabbi was also Jewish and we “hit it off” quite well. We had beautiful praise and worship and after the message Elohim would always follow with signs, wonders and miracles.
We did have a small problem though, which concerned our worship leader. He certainly loved the Lord. He was a very tall man of over 2 meters (6’6”). He had big hands and big feet and most important, he had a really big heart. He had learnt to play the guitar because he loved the Lord so much. But his problem was that he could not sing well. However his wife Tricia could read the page numbers and sounded like an angel from Heaven. She could sing professionally. So, we as Messianic Jewish men leaders, decided to pray and fast to see if it might be God’s will for a woman to lead worship. The year was 1982 and the four of us men in leadership started to pray and fast for one week to seek the Lord. After the week we all compared scriptures and I must add that we only checked the scriptures in our English translations (we did not research the original Hebrew and Greek!). All the English translations seemed to agree that it was not Yah’s will for a woman to speak, to have authority over or to teach men. That was it! That settled it in my heart; that a woman was never to be in any type of leadership over men.
I am sorry to say that it was all of our agreement that Tricia should not teach the worship songs to the entire congregation, as we had men and women in it. This doctrine was deeply seated in my heart because we prayed, we fasted and we were two or more in agreement about our scriptural interpretations on this subject.
I felt that my doctrines were sure and my feet were planted strongly on the “rock” of inspiration. Then the Lord spoke to me to come to Israel, which I did in obedience. I came to Israel accompanied by many miracles and found myself in a wonderful congregation in a city north of Tel Aviv. The leaders were all husband and wife teams. That did not bother me at all until the wife of one of the leaders got up to preach. All my “doctrinal signals” went off! After the message I told her husband that I needed to speak to him. He asked for another elder to be also present which I complied with.
I had by then memorized every scripture that I and most others had interpreted to be against women in leadership, all the way from Eve in the Garden of Eden to the wives of the Corinthians and the women of Ephesus in the Book of 1 Timothy. I was “hot”! How could a Messianic Congregation allow a woman to preach or to be in leadership! I am sorry to say, that I was listened to and heeded to, and from that moment on, his wife who was very anointed was not allowed to preach again. That left me feeling like I was to be a “watchdog “in Yeshua’s Body against any women that would dare to trespass my staunch doctrines! I believe that other congregations were affected by my position as well as even until today it is not really acceptable in the Body of Messiah in Israel for a woman to be a congregational leader or preacher.
A “surprising” turn of events!
I felt very privileged that God had given me this “office”, until one day, my prayer for a “prayer partner” to be granted to me was answered! However the answer was nothing short of surprising! A year earlier while in the central bus station in Jerusalem, I met some believers that I knew and they asked me if I would like to meet an Israeli young woman who had just met the Lord. I of course complied immediately as they pointed to a beautiful Israeli young lady that was with them. I was ecstatic that another Israeli had met the Lord and so I welcomed her to the Kingdom of God very warmly with a big “bear hug”. As I did so, I told Y’shua in my heart “not bad Lord!” Later I found out that she was speaking to Him at the same time and she said: “Lord I do not want to see this man again as long as I live!” A year later we were engaged to be married after she had become my best friend and prayer partner.
I had the sense that YHVH had entrusted to me His very special lamb. One day before we were married, as I was working at her apartment and installing air conditioning, she returned home crying profusely! I said-“Dominiquae what is wrong?” She said-“The leaders of the congregation have forbidden me to say “thus says the Lord” when I have a prophetic word to share. I asked her to share with me what the Lord had told her that caused such a stir! As she opened her mouth and started to prophesy, tears starting rolling down my cheeks! I am not a man given to tears but I had been filled with the Holy Spirit and I knew that my reaction was from the Spirit
confirming the Prophetic Word that she had given. Then she looked at me and asked: “So, Baruch what do you say?” Of course all my doctrines flushed in through my mind and I knew that the next words that came out of my mouth would either encourage this emerging Prophet of the Lord or discourage and even kill her spiritually. I had a battle in my mind- Do I say what my doctrines say or what my Spirit was saying. I proceeded to answer her question as I stated: “Dominiquae, you are hearing from the Living God! So, even if the leaders of Israel tell you that you can’t say “thus says the Lord”, I will say “thus says the Lord” for you! After declaring these words, her eyes lit up and a smile came back to her face and the joy of the Lord returned to her! I spoke to myself internally: “Baruch what have you done?”
I am a man of integrity, now I was forced to search the scriptures all over again! I searched and waited on the Lord for about 7 years until I had the complete and total answer. Meanwhile I had gone back to the USA together with my new wife to study in Bible School. Even there I could find no one to help me dispel these anti-women doctrines! However I began to notice more and more women in leadership and in the pulpits even in our own Bible School! Was that a coincidence or a Move of God? I did not know and did not find the answer until years later as I was back in Israel.
Our ministry lawyer in the USA had made sure that I would be the permanent president and CEO of our organization never to be removed. On top of it he insisted that I would be regarded as the founder of the ministry because I was the man. That being regardless of the fact that both the name and the vision of the Ministry had been given directly to my wife, Dominiquae; I thought that just like a pilot has a “navigator’ that God had given me my wife to be my “prophetic navigator”. Except that theory did not stand the test of time, since before nearly every meeting it was my wife the one that both received and was anointed to preach the message from God and she would get upset with me every time that I did not get it. No matter how much I prayed, it was my wife the one that got most of the messages to preach and I did not! The ultimate frustration happened when right after graduating Bible School and being both of us freshly ordained to the Ministry, I decided to seek YHVH about His will and direction for MY ministry.
You missed it God!!!
I set aside a week of prayer and fasting, this time I decided to do a dry fast, the most radical type of fasting with no food nor water, after all I had to do SERIOUS business with the Lord! My decision was to be totally set apart from my wife and anyone else, in fact even when I needed to go to the bathroom I would veil myself with my Talit-Prayer Shawl. To my surprise, at the start of my fast the Lord had already answered! Unbeknown to me, my wife had been invited to lead worship in a congregation, where the Holy Spirit fell through her ministry followed with signs, wonders and miracles! A man took his hearing aids off, a Catholic general from the Philippines and his Catholic family got saved and spirit baptized, rolling all over the isles like in the old days revival, handicapped people were healed and many 
more… After I came out of my seven days of dry fast and prayer retreat and found out that the Anointing had fallen on my wife, Dominiquae, I said quite frustrated and even offended with the Lord: “God you MISSED!” After all was I not the one who was praying and fasting for MY Ministry????
In 1993 we went back to Israel after 31/2 years of Apostolic Missions to the Far East, we were sent by the Spirit to China, Philippines, Indonesia and South Korea. The miracles that followed us deserve another book which will be published in the near future. Upon arrival to Israel, I was invited to preach in India. This was the first time that I would be travelling without my wife and partner in ministry. I saw that women in India were treated as mere objects or even furniture. A man could own a bicycle, a chair or a wife, it was all the same. I remember it like yesterday; I was asked to be one of the first speakers on a Sunday morning and I prepared a teaching and preached for about an hour and a half. My teaching was about people in leadership needing to walk in a Holy way. It was a very hot day and I preached also in the afternoon in a church and it was hotter. By 2.30 PM I finally got to eat, had a lovely Indian meal and fell asleep. Though I was asked to minister healing in the evening (which is my joy!), I could not get up as I was “glued to the bed”!
When I woke up I was moved by the Spirit to start to write a teaching on women in leadership ministry positions. By this time I had gathered material on the subject from people like T.L. Osborn, Ralph Mahoney and other well known and respected leaders in the Body of Messiah world-wide. As I started writing my teaching, I felt the joy and the anointing of the Lord on me. However I could not finish what I was doing because of a frantic knock on my door. It was the organizer of the 
campaign, as pale as a ghost (though he is a dark Indian!) letting me know that all the other international speakers had been arrested by the police on the grounds of “healing without a medical license!” So, I put my teaching away and started praying to get all my peers out of prison…
