Torah Portion Ki Tavo Deut 26:1 – 29:9 Haftarah Isa 60:1-22
So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. Romans 7:12
Shabbat shalom dearly beloved:
We are in the Season of Teshuva (Repentance) preparing for Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) and Yom HaKippurim (Day of Atonement). This is the yearly time when there is a special anointing to do a spiritual “house cleaning”. Most believers can be divided into these two categories:
1. Those that are afraid of the Torah (Yah’s LAW), thus they reject it as “legalism” and become LAWLESS
2. Those that love the Torah (Yah’s LAW) but are afraid of the Holy Spirit, thus become LEGALISTIC.
I would say that only a minority is walking in the fine balance between Torah and Ruach (Spirit) and those are mostly misunderstood by ALL!
First of all we must understand one foundational TRUTH: Yah (God) does not contradict Himself and He is not in confusion! He said in countless of Scriptures that His Law is GOOD!
So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. Romans 7:12
And it is Good! However man is not good at all and needs Teshuva (Repentance) that is the reason why Yeshua came. He came to redeem mankind from its own SIN!
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. Romans 7:14
He did not come to redeem mankind from the LAW of Elohim God forbid!
What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Romans 7:7
That is satan’s biggest lie and he is broadcasting it all the way from Genesis 3!
"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Genesis 3:4, 5
From the Garden of Eden till today, the ancient snake is still saying the same:
The LAW is evil; this is not given for your good...
King David said in the Psalms,
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. Psalms 119:9
It is important to note here that Yah’s Law is His Word. He cannot change His Word and He cannot change His Laws!
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” Yaakov (James) 1:17
King David loved Yah’s Statutes MORE than he loved wealth and riches!
I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. Psalms 119: 14
He knew that the secret to his blessing was His love for Elohim and His Word and Commandments!
Now it shall be, if you diligently obey YHVH your Elohim, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, YHVH your Elohim will set you high above all the nations of the earth. "All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey YHVH your Elohim” Deuteronomy 28:1, 2
So, if both the Apostle Paul and King David agree on the GOODNESS of the TORAH why is it that so many Christians are afraid of it and avoid it like the plague?
Because of Replacement Theology that has propagated for 1800 years the lie that the Torah is evil and it is “Judaizing”. However when we shut our ears to hear the Law, Yah is NOT pleased with our prayers!
He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, even his prayer is an abomination. Proverbs 28:9
Now, that is very serious and it goes right along what Yeshua said in Matthew 7:21-23
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.
In other words those who refuse to obey YHVH and His Commandments (Torah) both written and given by the Holy Spirit daily are called LAWLESS or TORAHLESS!
Adam became lawless when he believed that snake’s lie and rejected Elohim’s Commandment!
So, how can we walk in OBEDIENCE and yet not LEGALISTIC?
This is the most important point!
Obedient people will by no means become “legalistic” because the spirit of obedience and the spirit of legalism are from two different sources!
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Messiah Yeshua. For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yeshua has set you free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:1,2
Notice that the Law of the Spirit of life sets us free NOT from the Law of Elohim (God forbid!) but from the law of sin and death!
When we are filled with the Spirit of Life we will not walk in “legalism” which is trying to be good in our own efforts but we will walk in OBEDIENCE to His Voice (The Holy Spirit inside of us). And the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth! We should STOP rejecting Yah’s Torah and rather open our ears to hear it and to let the Holy Spirit write it on our hearts!
But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares YHVH, "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Jeremiah 31:33
The SIGN of the BRIT CHADASHAH (Re-Newed Covenant!) is the Torah written on our hearts by the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit will never lead us to “legalism” but to obedience!
Who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:6
So, it is the Holy Spirit that will teach the Torah to us and will give us REVELATION on how to walk it! It will not be the commandments and the traditions of men (though the Lord can use those too!) but rather His personal revelation to each one of us!
Let us cry out with King David!
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law. Psalms 119:18
This is a GOOD prayer for ALL of us to pray!
If we really love Him, we will seek Him day and night for Him to REVEAL His Will to us and He will. That personal revelation of His Torah (Law) is what causes us to REPENT! Teshuva (Returning, Repentance) that leads to Restoration!
The law of YHVH is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of YHVH is sure, making wise the simple. Psalms 19:7
When we walk in the Revelation of the Torah we will not walk in “legalism” but in Obedience!
“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent” Isaiah 62:1
